Structure of the Chorus

The River City Mixed Chorus, Inc. (RCMC) is a registered Corporation in the state of Nebraska.  RCMC is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a section 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization, and, as such, donations to the Corporation are tax deducible to the extent of the law.  This includes cash contributions, membership fees and dues, mileage to and from rehearsals, events, and non-monetary contributions.

RCMC has a set of Bylaws which act as the framework around which we function.

The Board of Directors is elected from among the Chorus membership.  The Board currently has eleven positions.  Directors are elected at large, from among the entire Chorus membership; all sections, singing and non-singing members.  Board elections are conducted at the Annual Corporation Meeting held in May of each year.  The Directors annually elect officers from among themselves.  The Board elects a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, who make up the Executive Committee of the Board.

The Board is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day business of RCMC.  Between Board meetings, the Executive Committee may make decisions affecting the Chorus.  The Board hires the Music Director, Accompanist, additional musicians, and any other contracted agents, approves major expenditures, recommends changes in use and fees to the general membership, and handles other regular Chorus business.

The RCMC Board of Directors has created a number of committees to assist in the many areas of running the Chorus.  Standing committees of the Corporation include, Production, Membership, Fundraising, GALA, Fifth Voice, Marketing and Public Relations.  The Music Librarian is an additional non-Board position that is very important to RCMC’s functioning.
