25 Years Ago, a group of five people from Omaha attended a performance by the Twin Cities Men’s Chorus performance in Des Moines. Inspired by the performance, these five founding members returned to Omaha and formed the River City Mixed Chorus and held RCMC's first rehearsal on September 24, 1984. A few short months later, the first concert was performed RCMC's first concert was performed in downtown Omaha, on December 16, 1984. The founding group consisted of 11 men and women, and launched what would be a quarter-century of groundbreaking musical performances. The River City Mixed Chorus was officially incorporated in the State of Nebraska in 1985, and received 501(c) 3 non-profit status from the Internal Revenue Service the following year. Since its inception 1984, The River City Mixed Chorus has been a proud member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses (GALA), a non-profit arts service association serving the international lesbian and gay choral movement. We were one of the first mixed choruses to join and to this day remain one of the longest-running LGBT Mixed Choruses in the United States. The 2009 Season will be our 25th performance season. Throughout the years, the River City Mixed Chorus has performed in venues across Omaha, including First United Methodist Church and the Strauss Performing Arts Center at University of Nebraska-Omaha. This year we are pleased to announce that we will be performing on the Main Stage at the Lied Education Center for the Arts, located on the Creighton University Campus.
